Wong: We condemn the Taliban’s ongoing campaign of repression
Canberra, January 29 (Hibya) – Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong said they condemn the Taliban’s ongoing campaign of repression, particularly against women and girls.
Australian Foreign Minister Wong stated that the people of Afghanistan are experiencing one of the world’s longest-running humanitarian crises, which has worsened further due to the Taliban’s inability to meet basic needs.
In response, Wong said the Australian government will provide an additional 50 million dollars in support through its current partners at the United Nations, stating:
“We condemn the Taliban’s ongoing campaign of repression, particularly against women and girls. Australia, together with international partners, continues legal action against Afghanistan due to the Taliban’s violations of CEDAW.”
