According to the BBC, the country’s aviation authority initially confirmed that contact with the aircraft was lost eleven minutes before it was scheduled to land.

The crash occurred near the border with Venezuela, and all 15 people on board were killed. According to CNN, the victims included Colombian lawmaker Diógenes Quintero.

Colombia’s U Party stated: “Diógenes Quintero was a leader deeply committed to his region, with a strong will to serve and a profound sense of public responsibility.”

Also on board was Carlos Salcedo, a candidate in the upcoming congressional elections. Two of the victims were crew members.

The aircraft, operated by Satena Airlines, was flying between Cúcuta and Ocaña. The wreckage was found in a mountainous area near La Playa de Belén.

Governor William Villamizar Laguado expressed his condolences to the victims.

Villamizar wrote on X: “We are deeply saddened by the tragedy following the plane crash confirmed in the rural area of La Playa de Belén over the past few hours. We extend our deepest condolences and solidarity to the families, friends, and loved ones of the victims.”

The President of Colombia also expressed his condolences.
