According to data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association, electric car sales in the EU rose by nearly 25% in the first three months of the year, while petrol car registrations fell by 20%.

In the first quarter, battery-powered hybrid vehicles were the top choice among consumers in the EU.

Hybrid vehicles accounted for about 35.5% of the market, up slightly more than one percentage point from the previous year, while fully electric vehicles made up around 15% of total sales by the end of March.

Electric car sales grew by 24%, with the strongest growth seen in the major markets of Germany, the Netherlands, and Belgium—where more than six out of every ten electric vehicles were sold.

According to the data, petrol vehicle registrations dropped by 20% year-on-year, reducing their market share to around 29%, while diesel vehicles fell below 10% of the total European car market.
